The command "3AM: Apply Material" allows applying a certain material on one or several model's faces. The applied material will be maintained through the future model modifications despite changes in the face's geometry. The command does not change the model geometry, but it is displayed in the model tree, standing as an independent operation.
The command can be convenient, for instance, for creating a perception of a colored model. In this way, the material is applied only on a face, while the body itself does not change its material. Therefore, this command does not affect the results of calculating mass-inertia characteristics of the model.
The command "3AM: Apply Material" is called via:

Ribbon |
---|---|
3D Model → Modify → Apply Material |
|
Keyboard |
Textual Menu |
<3AM> |
Operation > Apply Material |
Upon entering the command, the automenu provides both the general system options and the options that allow selecting and canceling selection of body faces on which a material will be applied.
Upon entering the command, the option is automatically set in the automenu:
<F> Select Face
Using this option, select the faces, on which a material will be applied.
If you plan to assign the same material to several faces, it is recommended to select all of them within one material application operation. This will help avoiding the unnecessary complications to the model structure.
To select a material to apply, you can use the "System toolbar" or bring up the command parameters dialog box, using the option:
<P> Set entity parameters
In the dialog, enter the material to be applied on faces in the "Material name" entry. Define the material by selecting it from the combo box. The selected material can be edited by calling the command "3MT: Edit Materials" (see the description above). This is done by the button [Materials…], that is also provided in the parameters dialog box of the described operation. If the applied material is the same as that of the underlying operation, an appropriate message will be displayed in the diagnostics window.
To cancel selection of all faces, use the option:
<K> Cancel selection of all faces
