In the Strings tab of the Dimension command's parameters window you can define text strings that shall be placed before, after or under the dimension value.
Those strings can be inputted manually, or defined by numerical or textual variables. When inputting the strings, you can use contextual menu commands, and drop-down lists containing frequently used standard texts. If you input an opening square or round bracket into the Before input box, the closing bracket of the corresponding type will be automatically added into the After input box and vice versa, if there are no other symbols in both boxes.
In order to insert a variable into one of the dimension strings, you need to enter its name in curvy braces into the respective input box. For example, if you need to make the "A" variable value appear in the dimension text on the drawing, enter {A} into the respective box. The dimension shown below have the "Width {A} mm" string typed into the Before box and the No option selected for the Value parameter.
Besides, special symbols can be entered into the text strings via <Alt>+<F9>. To do this, click inside a text string input box and press <Alt>+<F9>. A dialog will appear, where you can select a symbol to be inserted into the string, in the same way as described for the Text command.
After inserting a special symbol from the dialog, the symbol is represented as a special code in boxes of the parameters window. For standard symbols integrated into the font, the symbol usually consists of two percent signs, hyphen and three numbers. However, when you click the input box of the parameters window containing the special symbols, a pop-up appears indicating the content of the input box as it will be shown in the drawing. Special symbols can be used within any textual parameters of various elements.
Text Before, After and Under the dimension value, may also be defined using toolbars , that appear upon clicking an already added text string or its manipulator directly in the drawing window.
In order to confirm or cancel input, use buttons located in the right section of the toolbar. Input may also be canceled by pressing the <Esc> button. When inputting a text before or after a dimension value using these toolbars, the input may also be confirmed by pressing the <Enter> button; when inputting a text under a dimension value, pressing <Enter> adds a new line.
