Upon selecting a segment in the hatch contour editing mode, you can add a new point to the contour between the starting and the ending point of the current segment, thus splitting the segment.
To do so, activate the following automenu option

Switch to "Insert Point" mode |
If the option is activated via keyboard, then the preview of the new point instantly starts following the cursor. If the option is activated via clicking its icon, then you should additionally press within drawing window for the preview to appear. Set the desired position of the new point by moving the cursor and confirm the input by pressing or <Enter>. This way you can add any number of points. Upon adding a point, the segment formed by the new point and the ending point of the split segment gets selected for editing. Same as when defining a new contour, the new point can be snapped to existing 2D nodes, to intersections of construction lines and ending points of graphic lines. Upon selecting an intersection of construction lines or an ending point of a graphic line, a connected 2D node is automatically created there.

As the preview of the point follows the cursor, following options are available in the automenu:

Within the connected drawing mode , clicking an empty space of the drawing window selects the nearest existing 2D node or intersection of construction lines.
Within the free drawing mode , clicking an empty space of the drawing window creates a free 2D node there.

Upon activating this option, pressing within drawing window snaps the selected point of the contour to the nearest 2D node.

If a construction line passes through the starting point of the current segment, you can snap the new point to such line using these options. In result. the new segment of the path will pass along the selected line. Splines selection option also allows to select 2D paths, offset curves and function splines.
