3D Section Results Display

If you want to display bodies in 3D scene without parts cut-off by the section, you need to Apply Section. When applying a section, the presence of lines formed by intersections of bodies' faces with section depends on the status of the Geometric Section option. Color of faces formed by intersections of bodies with section is defined by the Color of Sectioned Surfaces option.

Applying section to 3D model

A 3D section can be used for viewing a 3D model. This helps quickly examine the inner structure of the model and evaluate the shape of the model in the section plane.

When viewing a model with a 3D section applied, the body is cut by the section into two parts. The part pointed by the section's view direction arrows remains displayed, the other part gets hidden. However, no actual separation is performed, the model itself is left unchanged, what is changed is just the way of its rendering in the 3D scene.

if you want a section to be applied to the model immediately after creation, enable the Apply Section checkbox in the FilterSection20x20 3D Section command's parameters window.

An already created section can be applied or misapplied to model using the special command - ApplySection20x20 Apply Section.

Graphical and Geometric Sections

3D sections can be graphic and geometric. Both types cut bodies by specified surfaces, however, the geometric section additionally draws outline lines, i.e. the lines of intersection between section and faces of dissected body. The graphic section allows you to load the system less, when working with large assemblies.

Geometric section

In order to create a Geometric Section, you should enable the eponymous checkbox in the FilterSection20x20 3D Section command's parameters window. For sections by plane, plane angle, octant and parallelepiped this checkbox is disabled by default, so a graphic section is created. For sections by 2D elements and 3D points this checkbox is always enabled, so these sections can not be graphic.

Color of Sectioned Surfaces

13_SectionFillMenu

The Color of Sectioned Surfaces drop-down list located at the bottom of the General Parameters tab in the FilterSection20x20 3D Section command's parameters window allows you to select one of the following colors for faces formed by intersections of bodies with section:

Section Color
Faces will be filled with color set in section parameters (blue by default).

Body Color
Faces will be filled with color set in body parameters (gray by default).

Body Material
Faces will be filled with texture of body material.
