Draw > Axis |
The command is provided for drawing axis lines by graphic lines in a drawing.
Upon calling the command, you should select a method of axes creation by activating one of the following automenu options:

Next, you should select the source drawing elements for axes creation by clicking them with . Number, type and selection order of source elements depend on the selected method of axes creation. Selected elements are highlighted. Some elements are mandatory for selection, other elements (the ones that define length of the axis) are optional. During the selection process, the preview of the axes is shown in the drawing, upon moving the cursor over the last mandatory element, if object snappings are enabled. If the current method of axes creation presume selection of optional elements, instead of selecting them you can finish the creation via the automenu option (<Ctrl>+<Enter>), or anywhere in the drawing. Upon selecting the maximum number of source elements, the creation of the current axis ends automatically and the system proceeds to creation of another axis.
By default, created axes slightly overhang the source elements, that limit their length. The overhang value is set in page parameters (Document Parameters > Page > Lines > Line Style > Arrow (End) Size)
In addition to options listed above, the automenu of the command contains following options, which are common for most 2D elements creation commands:
<Ctrl>+<Enter> |
Finish input |
|
<P> |
||
<Esc> |
Cancel selection |
|
<Esc> |
Exit command |
Axes created by this command are graphic lines with the CENTER 2 dash-dot line type. They have the same set of parameters and can be edited in the same way as any other graphic line. If necessary? the line type and other parameters can be changed via the parameters tool window or the parameters dialog.
The Axis command provides the most convenient set of tools for axes creation. The resulting axes maintain associative relationships with their reference elements. E.g.: if you move a circle its axes will move along automatically.
Alternatively, axes may also be created using other commands. The sketch command Axis Lines creates two axes of a circle, ellipse or arc, in the similar way as the option. Moreover, you can created a simple graphic line and assign it the same dash-dot line type, as used for axes. However, unlike the axes created by the Axis command, such axes won't be automatically regenerated upon changes in lines, whose axes they represent. E.g.: if you move a circle, its axes won't move along automatically and will no longer coincide with the circle.
